Meetings unless otherwise indicated will be at the St Georges and Priorslee Parish Hall at 7.30 on the first Thursday of the month
Meeting
13 May
Will members please note that because of the use of the St Georges and Priorslee Parish Hall on May 6 as a polling station, our meeting has to be deferred a week to the 13th of May. Neil Clarke will speak to us on the subject of the Holyhead Road. As one of our own members, Neil, a well-known transport historian, who grew up locally, is a particularly welcome speaker. The only change is the date of the meeting; in all other respects it should be a normal meeting.
Schedule
10 July
Our Summer outing this year will be to Styal near Manchester: here is the famous Quarry Bank spinning mill, set up by the Greg family in the late 18th century, complete with a phenomenally large water wheel, the master’s mansion, the company village, the apprentice house and the usual National Trust facilities (tea room, gift shop etc.). From 1785, the Greg firm was a major user of parish apprentices, the last not completing his indentures until about 1847.
11 September (Saturday)
Neil Clarke will be leading an excursion (own cars) to explore the transport history of Ketley.Further details to be put up as soon as possible. Neil is one of our own members and a well-known transport historian.
7 October
Keith Pritchard will be speaking to us on Witchcraft. This is a second appearance by Keith who recently spoke to us on the subject of the 1st World War (2008) and is returning 'by popular demand'.
