The Telford Historical and Archaeological Society (THAS) are a registed charity.

Founded in 1981 to exploit and promote the extensive historical and archaeological material which exists in the vicinity of Telford.

This aim is achieved by offering six meetings a year with guest lecturers. These are arranged on the first Thursday of each month. (October thru’ May).

The talks cover a wide variety of themes relating to local or regional topics and a balance is achieved with national and general subjects.

Also during this year, usually in early summer and September, we hold two outings. In September we concentrate on a particular feature – i.e. canals, churches, stately homes etc. or areas such as the Clun Valley and Corvedale.

On our summer excursion we venture further afield and have included visits to county towns, areas such as North and South Wales and excavations at Peterborough and Whitley Grange near Shrewsbury.

The social wellbeing of the society members is not neglected. Our December meeting is a members’ evening at which we have a chance to let our hair down and enjoy each others’ company during a buffet, accompanied by a pre-Christmas tipple, and a light hearted quiz.
